The sinking of the Oceanos - 4th of August 1991

This year (2006) it will be 15 years since the Oceonos sank, I am creating this web site for all passengers who were miraculously rescued from the ill fated liner.

This blog will also ensure that we don't forget what happened and appreciate that we got a second chance in life, I would love to hear any comments especially from other passengers. I will tell my story here.

I am an American and just saw the special on the sinking/rescue of the Oceanus on National Geographic. All survivors have my sympathy and admiration(especially the entertainers who assumed the duties of the AWOL captain and crew), except the so-called captain and crew who jumped ship as so many rats, leaving the passengers to their fate. Because of this and their love of Islamic terrorists I would never trust a Greek ship, crew or anything else Greek-run. Sorry. I'm sure others haved had good experiences with them(like the Achille Lauro?). The attitude of the captain and Epirotiki Lines was despicable. He should never be allowed to crew any vessel, because he violated the prime duty of sea captains and belongs in prison. The principals of the company should be sued and shamed into oblivion. I may be more indredulous about this than many survivors. That aside, I think it's great that the passengers, who have a bond through this experience, have a way to keep linked through this good site. Best of luck to all of you. What a story.

Does anyone know what happened to Captain Yannis Avranas? He must be pretty old by now. Was there ever an Inquiry?
